A park at the
train station.

Parque Estación is a free, open-air cultural park in the old railway yard of Puerto Varas, in Chile’s Lake District.

The park

What’s on.

The park sits next to the Puerto Varas train station, a short walk from the town centre and the lake. Passenger trains run again on weekdays, with services from Llanquihue and Puerto Montt.

Every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm the Feria Puerto Varas, a farmers’ market with fresh local produce, crafts and food, takes place in the Galpón Estación, the restored railway shed (entrance on Decher street, number 355). Once a month, El Mercadito brings design, plants and food to the same shed.

The station building houses a free children’s library (Monday to Friday 9 am–2 pm and 3–6 pm; Saturday 10 am–2 pm). Around the year there are concerts, [Re]Lib (the regional book fair, every May), cultural trains and a 135-metre pollinator flower corridor along the tracks. Three food stalls next to the shed (Decher 355) are open every day from 1 to 10 pm.

Questions

Before you come.

Is it free?

Yes. The park is open and free. Some events and workshops have their own fee.

When is it open?

The green area is always open. It only closes partially when a large event uses the whole park.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, on or off the leash, as long as you pick up after it and it doesn’t bother the children.

Where can I park?

On Decher street. On weekends also behind the Galpón Estación, unless there is an event.

Can I have a picnic?

Picnics yes, barbecues no.
